FIFA has not provided a specific timeline for the investigation, nor has it identified any individual players by name. Nevertheless, the appointment of a disciplinary prosecutor indicates the possibility of retrospective sanctions if any breaches of the code are confirmed. Reports had initially suggested that Paredes received a red card after the match, but this dismissal was subsequently removed from the official record, meaning he avoided immediate punishment on the night despite the controversy.

The decision by Paredes to focus solely on Argentina’s campaign, without addressing the violence that overshadowed the final, has intensified scrutiny over his conduct as the football world awaits FIFA’s verdict.

Details of the Post-Match Incidents

Television footage captured several flashpoints during Spain’s celebration of their World Cup triumph. Paredes was seen grabbing Spain defender Eric Garcia by the throat and pushing him to the ground. When Gavi attempted to intervene, the Argentine midfielder reportedly pushed the Barcelona youngster to the turf and grappled with him.
