Arsenal are reportedly exploring a potential deal to sign Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior. Vinicius Junior, who is 26, has entered the final year of his contract with Real Madrid after eight seasons. Negotiations for a contract renewal have not yet resulted in a breakthrough. Contract Situation and Performance
The player’s future at Real Madrid has become uncertain following José Mourinho’s return to the club. There has been a focus on the relationship between Vinicius Junior and the new Real Madrid manager. However, it is understood that the player and head coach have communicated since an incident last season involving Benfica midfielder Gianluca Prestianni, and are prepared to begin the new campaign with a fresh start.
Vinicius Junior had a notable performance during this summer’s World Cup, participating in all five of Brazil’s matches and scoring four goals. For Real Madrid in the 2025-26 season, he registered 22 goals across all competitions. The club finished second in La Liga, eight points behind Barcelona, marking their second consecutive season without a trophy.
Since joining Real Madrid in 2018 from Flamengo, Vinicius Junior has made 375 total appearances, contributing 128 goals and 100 assists. His impressive statistics and status as the 2024 Ballon d’Or runner-up make him a significant target for clubs looking to bolster their squads.
Arsenal’s Attacking Reinforcements
Arsenal are aiming to strengthen their left-wing attacking options this summer. The club recently signed Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for £34m. This follows the departure of Leandro Trossard, who was sold to Besiktas for £17m earlier in the summer. Piero Hincapié also made his temporary deal permanent, and goalkeeper Illan Meslier, out of contract at Leeds, joined the club as a third addition.
Other players on Arsenal’s radar include Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez, RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, and Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain. Morgan Rogers was also identified as a target, but Arsenal were reportedly not prepared to pay more than £80m for the England international, who subsequently joined Chelsea in a £117m deal, a British record fee.
The interest in Vinicius Junior aligns with Arsenal’s strategy to build on their recent Premier League title win. The club also has an interest in signing Brazil international Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe commented on the situation, stating that the club does not want to lose its key players and that he has had conversations with Guimarães, but the future remains uncertain.
Regarding contract figures, Vinicius Junior is currently on 15m Euros a year net. Real Madrid has reportedly offered him 20m Euros, while he is seeking 30m Euros, which is just over 550,000 Euros a week net. This contract situation has been ongoing for 18 months, with no agreement reached between Real Madrid and the player.
